This study demonstrates how the usage of formulas or matrices affects how R's linear models handle input data. Through the comparison of outputs from two modeling approaches, we learned how the behavior of manually built matrices differs from formula-based models that by default include a intercept. For statistical analyses to be accurate, these subtleties are essential.
